The Woodhouse Way: Our Values & Culture

A small school where every child belongs

At Woodhouse Academy, we believe that the best schools combine high expectations with strong relationships. We are proud to be a small middle school for children in years 5 to 8, where every child is known, valued and encouraged to achieve their very best.

The Woodhouse Way is the foundation of everything we do. It is our shared culture, our common language and the way we ensure every member of our community understands what it means to belong.

It shapes how we learn, how we conduct ourselves, how we show respect for ourselves, each other and our environment. It creates a strong sense of pride in who we are as individuals, as a school and as a community.

Our ethos is simple but powerful:

Working hard.
Working together as a community.
Working for the future.

These principles guide everything we do and help our students to thrive academically, socially and personally.

Our values are captured through our REWARD acronym:

  • Respect

  • Encouragement

  • Working Hard

  • Aspiration

  • Resilience

  • Determination

These are not simply words displayed around school — they are values that are lived every day through our relationships, learning and wider school life.

Strong relationships and exceptional pastoral care

At Woodhouse Academy, relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

Every student belongs to a form group led by a Form Tutor who remains with them throughout their four years at Woodhouse. This allows staff to build strong relationships with students and families, understand individual needs and provide consistent support throughout their journey.

Our pastoral team consists of Form Tutors, Key Stage Leaders and a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer, ensuring every child has trusted adults who know them well and can support them to succeed.

Visitors often comment on the warmth and positivity they feel when they walk through our doors. Our classrooms are purposeful and ambitious, our corridors are filled with friendly greetings and our students take genuine pride in being part of our school community.

We work hard, we have high expectations and we are ambitious for every child — but we also believe school should be a place where children are happy, feel safe, build friendships and create memories that last.

This is The Woodhouse Way.
