At Woodhouse, we want every child to feel safe, happy, known and supported.

We know that children learn best when they feel that they belong, when they have trusted adults around them and when they know there is always someone they can talk to. Pastoral care is therefore at the heart of The Woodhouse Way.

Every Child Known

Every pupil has a Form Tutor who they see regularly and who plays an important part in their everyday school life. Form tutors get to know their pupils well, celebrate their successes and are often the first person to notice when something might not be quite right.

Alongside our form tutors, our Heads of Key Stage, pastoral staff, safeguarding team and wider staff team work together to make sure children receive the right support when they need it.

Here When Things Feel Difficult

Growing up is not always easy. Children may experience worries about friendships, family life, learning, attendance, confidence, change or their emotional wellbeing.

We encourage pupils to talk to us. Sometimes a quick conversation with a trusted adult is all that is needed; at other times, a child may benefit from some additional support.

Whatever the concern, we aim to listen, understand and help.

More Than Solving Problems

Pastoral care isn't only about supporting children when something has gone wrong.

It is also about helping them to:

• feel that they belong

• build positive friendships

• develop confidence and resilience

• understand and manage their emotions

• make positive choices

• celebrate their strengths and achievements

• become increasingly independent

• feel ready for the next stage of their lives

Through form time, PSHE, assemblies, enrichment opportunities and everyday conversations, we help pupils develop the skills they need both in school and beyond it.

Working Together With Families

Parents and carers know their children best, and we really value working together.

If something is affecting your child, please tell us, even if you are unsure whether it is something school needs to know. Sharing information early often helps us provide support before a small worry becomes a bigger one.

Likewise, if we notice that your child may need a little extra help, we will work with you to find the best way forward.

Safeguarding Everyone

Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility at Woodhouse Academy.

All staff receive safeguarding training and know how to recognise and report concerns. Our safeguarding team works closely with pupils, families and, where appropriate, other professionals to make sure children receive the help and protection they need.

Above all, we want every pupil at Woodhouse to know:
